Re: Why is music theory so neglected?
Some people have no aspirations in the musical field but rather play for fun only. Since they don't enjoy studying music theory they don't bother. Anyone who wants to pursue music seriously will usually learn how to at least read sheet music.

Probably. They said that KKK membership went up whenever racism became a big topic in the press 100 years ago. We're heading in that direction again.

Re: So what's wrong with being a farmer or a bartender anyway?
I agree. It implies an agreement with classism which isn't our hashkafa. Any kosher employment is ok. Nothing wrong with being a plumber, baker, or barber either.

Emotional Songs
Some songs are really great at making you feel something. Of course in recent months there have been many new compositions due to the coronavirus pandemic but there are certainly many songs that predate that. What songs do you know that really make you feel something? Some examples below: The Place ...

Most of them will be curious but not scared. Masks don't cover eyes.

Re: At what age can children start earning their own money?
It depends on what you consider to be earning money. Even a six-year-old can get an allowance for helping around the house. That can slowly transition over the years to earning the money for their own extras. A teenager can be expected to babysit to earn money to buy a camera and other non-essential...

Yes but often when people complain it's a way of saying "na na na na na I slept less than you" :)virtuosointraining wrote: ↑June 28th, 2020, 4:11 pm When I complain about lack of sleep, I am actually tired.

Re: Torah taught in the style of secular education
How can something be efficient in real life if it isn't efficient on paper? Fact is, there isn't a lot of time allocated toward testing. Instead, time is allocated toward actual learning. Tests are to make sure students are really paying attention. If a student has a problem taking written tests, i...

Not everything has to be efficient on paper. There are techniques to pass written tests but you need to actually know your work to be questioned on it orally

Re: George Washington
As someone who already owned slaves as a child, it wasn't fully his choice to become a slave owner. He was born into that system and it seems like he tried to care for his slaves well according to the standards of the time. He even gave some guns to go hunting so if they would have hated him that mu...

Not a good idea to wear masks too much though because it does lead to minor hypoxia.

I'm not a believer in homework in general but oral tests have a longstanding history. Written tests are newer but probably mostly because paper is a lot cheaper.

Yes, 100%. For some reason it's considered embarrassing to "need your sleep" as if being a sleep deprived individual is some kind of ideal to strive towards. I guess sleep kind of feels like a waste of time to many and it's hard to overcome that feeling.

If you feel strongly enough you can invest in one run. Contact the manufacturer and work out a deal. It sounds like it would be good but today these things are harder to sell because a lot of schools are peanut free.
