Re: Pshat in a gmara Megilla 7b

The literal translation is that Rabba and Rabbi Zeira had a Purim seuda together, they got drunk, and Rabba shechted Rabbi Zeira. The next day, Rabba davened and Rabbi Zeira was brought back to life. The next year, Rabba asked Rabbi Zeira to join him for a Purim seuda again, but Rabbi Zeira said tha...

Should all cameras be on during a Zoom meeting?

Some say that they should be so that people can see each other like they do in person, and so that the person leading the meeting can confirm that everyone is actually there. Others say that it isn't like a normal in-person meeting because people don't bring their houses (or children and pets) to th...

Is it actually halachically forbidden to hire someone else's cleaning lady?

I've seen this claim many times, that it is unfair and against halacha to offer someone else's employee more money to work for you. This makes sense in some contexts; however, is it accurate as a general statement?

Also, you can't mute a tab that you're using to go to multiple sites (to prevent it from producing unwanted audio by auto-playing videos).

Re: Pointless semantics

1. According to the dictionary, probably. The way I would define it personally, no, unless the filling is a different bread. 2. Technically, yes. Rhode Island is located entirely within its own borders, so Rhode Island is a state in Rhode Island. (The same could be said for any other state, country,...

Just to clarify in case I came across as mocking, this topic is intended to be humorous, and having a funny literal interpretation doesn't mean there is anything wrong with a song or phrase.

Taking songs literally

There is, of course, nothing wrong with a little poetic license. But some songs have strange meanings when taken literally. Example: Western Wall on Friday night His first time ever there Strapped into his knapsack With his long and curly hair I don't think that's how you do the straps on a knapsack...

The manufacturer claims that using ultrasonic waves, it cleans laundry and other things effectively but also gently enough to be used for delicate items. They also claim that it could be used to clean items that can't really be cleaned any other way. Is there any way to verify this?

Legal forms of deception

There are certain things that are legal but still deceptive, and they bother me. For example, there are artificial sweetener packets that actually contain sugar. Since it's less than five calories per serving, they can write "zero calories".
