Why do people eat chicken wings?

They're barely food. They're mostly just bones. There is no way to eat them without looking like a slob. People used to throw the in the trash, and they still should.

They actually taste very good! I agree that it is difficult to eat with proper table manners. But in a casual setting, it is a very reasonable priced food and can work to round out a meal.

Bones would break my teeth...unless it's in the chulent and then a popular serving choice.

They're not actually that cheap, because you're paying for a food that is mostly bones and hard to eat.

They are literally mostly bone. So a small percentage is technically food. But as a whole, they're not.

Food is any substance that provides nutrition for an organism. So yes, they are food. However, they are not human food, nor are they fit for any of the animals that humans associate with.
