Taking songs literally

There is, of course, nothing wrong with a little poetic license. But some songs have strange meanings when taken literally. Example:
Western Wall on Friday night
His first time ever there
Strapped into his knapsack
With his long and curly hair
I don't think that's how you do the straps on a knapsack...

I get very annoyed when I hear things like that, but I try to be forgiving.

So throw away your hammer, there's nothing left to do,
Go on home and find the gift, it's waiting there for you.
Why spend hundreds of dollars a year replacing your hammer on a weekly basis?

Just to clarify in case I came across as mocking, this topic is intended to be humorous, and having a funny literal interpretation doesn't mean there is anything wrong with a song or phrase.

Not to mention smashing the floor.

I'd think he was throwing it outside or in a garbage can, not on the floor.
